RESOLUTION OP THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO
ALTO AMENDING SECTION 302 (NEPOTISM) OF THE
MERIT SYSTEM RULES AND REGULATIONS REGARDING
EMPLOYMENT OF SIBLINGS
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as
follows:
SECTION 1. Section 302 of the Merit System Rules and
Regulations is hereby amended in the manner set forth in_ Exhibit
"A", attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference.
SECTION 2. The Council finds that this is not a project
under the California Environmental Quality Act, and therefore, no
environmental impact assessment is necessary.

MERIT SYSTEM RULES AND REGULATIONS
Section 302. Nepotism
(c) Notwithstanding Section 301, a parent, sibling or child
of a City employee may not become an employee within the
same division (or the same department, if the department
does not contain divisions) as the City employee;
provided that two siblings may be employed in the same
division or department under the -following conditions:
(1) the siblings must be hourly employees;
(2) the siblings must work_ at different locations; and
(3) neither sibling may be employed in a position that
is supervisory to the other sibling.
This subsection does not apply to two such relatives who
are authorized to share a single position.
