RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
SUPPORTING BRANDON DUISENBERG AND DAVID WARREN
IN THEIR EFFORT TO PROMOTE ENV/RONMENTAL AWARENESS
AND ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION
WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto is widely known as an
environmentally aware community, establishing strong leadership in
recycling efforts and supporting alternative methods of
transportation; and
WHEREAS, two outstanding youth citizens of the City of
Palo Alto, Brandon Duisenberg and David Warren, have demonstrated
their concern for cleaner air by utilizing bicycles as alternative
transportation; and
WHEREAS, Brandon and David, who currently attend
California P.,lytechnic State University and Rhode Island's Brown
University, respectively, grew up together in Palo Alto, learned to
ride bicycles together at the age of five, and graduated from Palo
Alto Senior High School; and
WHEREAS, on June 22, 1994, Brandon and David will embark
on a 4,000 mile journey across the United States, beginning in the
San Francisco Bay Area and ending on the Atlant4c Coast, to promote
the use of alternative transportation; and
WHEREAS, this project, "Bay to Bay the Long Way," is a
joint effort with Bay Area Action, a citizen education organization
working in the San Francisco Bay Area to conserve and restore the
environment; and
WHEREAS,
this event as part
WHEREAS,
and David on their
Palo Alto Centennial 1994, Inc. has sanctioned
of the Palo Alto Centennial celebration; and
the City of Palo Alto wishes to support Brandon
worthwhile cause.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the
City of Palo Alto, on behalf of the citizens of this community,
hereby expresses its support for the efforts of Brandon Duisenberg
and David Warren and wishes them well on their 4,000 mile journey
across the United States as they represent the City of Palo Alto
and promote environmental awareness.
