RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
EXPRESSING APPRECIAT/ON TO WILLIAM L. MASSEY
UPON HIS RETIREMENT
WHEREAS, William L. Massey served the City of Palo Alto
and its citizens as a member of the Palo Alto Police Department
from April 1966 through December 1993 and was promoted to the rank
of Sergeant in 1974; and
WHEREAS, William L. Massey served the Palo Alto community
in all aspects of law enforcement, beginning his career with
walking the downtown nighttime foot beat and later becoming a
distinguished traffic motorcycle officer, expert auto accident
investigator, and highly regarded robbery and homicide
investigator; and
WHEREAS, William L. Massey was an integral part of the
Field Training Program for new officers and served as a program
supervisor for eleven years; and
WHEREAS, William L. Massey represented the Palo Alto
Police Department for ten years as a marksman on the department
competition pistol team; and
WHEREAS, William L. Massey pursued his 32 -year law
enforcement career with dignity, loyalty, fairness, courtesy, and
professionalism; and
WHEREAS, William L. Massey used only one day of sick
leave in the past twenty years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of
the City of Palo Alto hereby commends the outstanding public
service of William L. Massey and records its appreciation, as well
as the appreciation of the citizens of this community, upon his
retirement.
