HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO7555RESOLUTION NO. 7555 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE CONSOLIDATED GENERAL MUNICIPAL AND SPECIAL ELECTIONS HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1995 WHEREAS, on November 7, 1995, General and Special Municipal Elections were consolidated with the Statewide Special Electior, and duly held in the City of Palo Alto pursuant to the provisions of Article IX, Section 3 of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto for the purposes of electing four members to the City Council, each for a full term of four years expiring December 31, 1999, and submitting Measure R to the voters of said City, and to wit: CITY OF PALO ALTO MEASURE "R" Shall an ordinance be adopted amending the Palo Alto Comprehensive Plan Land Use Element to limit nonresidential growth and to preclude the City Council from making specified changes without voter approval until December 31, 2015. FOR THE ORDINANCE: 4,557 AGAINST THE ORDINANCE: 10,816 WHEREAS, due and legal notice of said General Municipal and Special Elections was given as required by law; and WHEREAS, on the 7th day of November 1995, at the hour of 7:00 in the morning of said day, the polls were duly and regularly opened for said General Municipal and Special Elections and said polls were continuously kept open for said purpose from the time they were so opened until 8:00 in the evening of said day; and WHEREAS, the Registrar of Voters of Santa Clara County has conducted a complete and official canvass of the returns of said elections; and P:..i EL CTI09G\ADNIN\RESOCANV .95 • • WHEREAS, Article III, Section 4 of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto states that the Council shall act as a canvassing board to canvass the results of such elections; and WHEREAS, on November 27, 1995, the Council of the City of Palo Alto met at its usual place of meeting and did then and there canvass the returns of said General Municipal and Special Elections and declare the results thereof; NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: ,$ECTIO.N 1. The Council finds and declares that: (a) A General Municipal Election was duly and regularly held on November 7, 1995, according to the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, Resolution No. 7529, and the election laws of the State of California; !b) The total number of ballots cast in the City at said municipal election for the purpose of electing four Council Members for full terms including those cast upon absentee ballots was 48,065, on 15,967 ballots (43.4% turnout); (c) The total number of votes given and cast at said municipal election, including votes cast upon absentee ballots, was as follows for the candidates for City Council for full terms: Edmund Power Joe Simitian Joseph H. SECTION 2. The Council finds and declares that: (a) A Special Election consolidated with the General Municipal Election was duly and regularly held on November 7, 1995, according to the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, Resolution 7541, and the election laws of the State of California for the purpose of considering Measure R. (b) The total number of votes cast in the City at said Special Election, including votes cast upon absentee ballots, was 15,373 on 15,967 ballots (43.4% turnout); (c) The total number of votes given and cast for Measure R at said election, including votes cast upon absentee ballots, was as follows: FOR THE ORDINANCE: 4,557 29.6% AGAINST THE ORDNANCE: 10,816 70.4°% TOTAL 15,373 100.00 SECTION 3. Attached hereto as Exhibit "A" and. incorporated herein by this reference is the statement of the results as required by Section 10264 of the California Elections Code. County of Santa Clara I, Dwight M. Beattie, Registrar of Voters of the County of Santa Clara, State of California, hereby declare that a GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION was held in the CITY OF PALO ALTO on November 7, 1995 for the purposes of electing four members to the City Council, and submitting Measure R to the voters of said City; and to wit: R Amends the Palo Alto Comprehensive Plan Land Use Element to limit nonresidential growth and to preclude the City Council from making specified changes without voter approval until December 31, 2015. That the official canvass of the returns of said election was conducted by the office of the Registrar of Voters in accordance with the appropriate provisions of the Elections Code of the State of California; and That the Statement of Votes Cast, hereto attached, shows the whole number of votes cast for each candidate for said Council Seats, and for and against Measure R in the CITY OF PALO ALTO, and in each of the respective precincts; and that the totals shown for each candidate are true and correct.
