HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO7476RESOLUTION 7476 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO HONORING LIZ KNISS AS MAYOR OF PALO ALTO FOR 1994 WHEREAS, Liz Kniss served as Mayor of the City of Palo Alto during its Centennial year from January 10, 1994, to December 31, 1994; and WHEREAS, Liz Kniss always had a strong, effective, and pleasurable presence as Mayor at regional events; Centennial events; the Town Hall meeting; and joint meetings with boards, commissions, legislators, visiting dignitaries, and other elected officials; and WHEREAS, Liz Kniss will be known for her active participation in making the Centennial celebration from October 1993 through October 1994 a smashing and memorable success and for presiding over and officializing the installment of Albi, France, as Palo Alto's fifth sister city; and WHEREAS, Liz Kniss set priorities for her term as Mayor to include families and children, economic vitality, and technological advancement in voice mail and electronic transmissions and achieved the technological goal by playing a key role in establishing the City of Palo Alto as the first city to access the Internet Information Superhighway and to communicate with the White House; and WHEREAS, Liz Kniss was committed to achieving support for families by focusing her "State of the City Address" on family issues and pressures of today and the importance of preserving nuclear families and family values for a healthy tomorrow; and WHEREAS, Liz Kniss furthered her commitment by appointing an ad hoc task force to explore the possibility of a "Family Resource Center"; and WHEREAS, Liz Kniss's success and visions as Mayor will contribute to the community to face the challenges the next century will bring. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby gratefully records its sincere appreciation and the appreciation of the community to Liz Kniss for her many services to the City of Palo Alto during her term as Mayor.
