HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO7632RESOLUTION 7632 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO DIANNE MCKENNA FOR OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WHEREAS, Dianne McKenna has served on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors since 1984, representing District Five, which includes the City of Palo Alto; and WHEREAS, Dianne McKenna served as Chairperson of the Board of Supervisors in 1987 and 1991 and as Chairperson of the Transit District Board in 1988 and 1992; and WHEREAS, as a former City of Sunnyvale Mayor and Council Member, Dianne McKenna brought to the Board a municipality perspective, and she has maintained her dedication to and involvement with the cities of District Five; and WHEREAS, Dianne McKenna proposed and the Board adopted a comprehensive Code of Ethics for the Board of Supervisors, which covers campaign finance, conflict of interest, and "revolving door" issues; and WHEREAS, Dianne McKenna is a member of the new Children's Shelter Board of Trustees, a founding member of Kids in Common, and chair of the Children and Youth Services Joint Conference Committee; and this strong advocacy for children and youth has helped abused and neglected children of Santa Clara County and has improved conditions for them; and WHEREAS, Dianne McKenna offered her expert knowledge in urban and regional planning and environmental and conservation issues as she chaired both the General Plan Review Advisory Committee and the Solid Waste Commission of Santa Clara County; and WHEREAS, Dianne McKenna's interest and efforts in transportation have given Santa Clara County and its cities a strong voice and respected presence, and her efforts include leading the merger of the Transit District and Congestion Management Agency into the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority i:t January 1995; chairing the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the regional agency responsible for planning and allocating state and federal funds in the San Francisco Bay Area; and founding and serving on the Peninsula Commute Service Joint Powers Board, which operates the CalTrain commuter rail service from Gilroy to San Francisco. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby gratefully records and extends its sincere appreciation and the appreciation of the community to Dianne McKenna for her excellent service as a Member of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.
