RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO RONALD P. SCHINDLER
UPON HIS RETIREMENT
WHEREAS, Ronald P. Schindler served the City of Palo Alto
and its citizens as a member of the Palo Alto Police Department
from December 18, 1967, through July 31, 1996; and
WHEREAS, Ronald P. Schindler was promoted to the rank of
Sergeant on. July 1, 1981; and
WHEREAS, Ronald P. Schindler was assigned to the Field
Services Division from 1967 through 1977 and was one of the
"charter" members of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team
(S.W.A.T.); and
WHEREAS, Ronald P. Schindler served as a detective in the
Investigative Services Division where he developed and implemented
the Burglary Suppression Team from 1977 to 1981; and
WHEREAS, Ronald P. Schindler played a key role in
numerous cases, such as the College Terrace rapist investigation,
the Waverley Oaks burglaries, the "Want Ad" rape cases, the
shooting of California Highway Patrol Officer Ted White, and the
undercover drug investigation at Varian Associates; and
WHEREAS, in 1984, Ronald P. Schindler was nominated for
the San Mateo County Trial Lawyers Association's "Law Enforcement
Officer of the Year" award for the development and coordination of
the Secret Witness program, which allowed witnesses to report crime
information anonymously; and
WHEREAS, Ronald P. Schindler received over
80 commendations, ranging from the recovery of a runaway child to
the arrest of 78 persons at the Holiday Inn; and
WHEREAS, Ronald P. Schindler pursued his 29 -year law
enforcement career with dedication, loyalty, fairness, tenacity,
and professionalism.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Palo Alto hereby commends the outstanding public

service of Ronald P. Schindler and records its appreciation, as
well as the appreciation of the citizens of this community, upon
his retirement.
