RESOLUTION NO. 7669
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
ESTABLISHING THE NUMBER OF RESIDENTS OF THE CITY
FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETERMINING THE VOLUNTARY
EXPENDITURE CEILING FOR CITY ELECTIONS, AS SET
FORTH IN SECTION 2.40.070 OF THE PALO ALTO
MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of "The California
Political Reform Act of 1995," approved by the voters as
Proposition 208 on the November 5, 1996 statewide ballot, the City
Council has adopted an ordinance establishing a voluntary
expenditure ceiling for campaigns for City elective office; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to City of Palo Alto Municipal Code
section 2.40.070, the voluntary expenditure ceiling is established
for each election to City elective office at an amount equal to
fourteen thousand dollars ($14,000.00); and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Government Code section 85400(c), the
City Council is authorized to establish any voluntary expenditure
ceiling not in excess of one dollar ($1.00) per resident per
election;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council finds that there are 58,501
residents of the City of Palo Alto, as reflected in the most recent
data provided by the California Department of Finance.
SECTION 2. The City Council finds that the fourteen
thousand dollar voluntary expenditure ceiling is approximately
23.91 cents per resident ($0.2391), and is therefore not in excess
of one dollar per resident.
SECTION 3. The findings in this Resolution shall apply
only to the voluntary expenditure ceiling established in the City
of Palo Alto Municipal Code and shall have no effect on any other
matter.

SECTION 4. The Council finds that this resolution does not
constitute a project subject to the California Environmental
Quality Act.
