HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 8641RESOLUTION NO 8641 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO ENCOURAGING THE PROMOTION OF HEALTH AWARENESS FOR OURSELVES, OUR FAMILIES AND OUR COMMUNITY WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto recognizes the problems the State is facing due to an epidemic of overweight individuals, obesity, and diabetes causing suffering, illness, and death for many, as well as financial hardships; and WHEREAS, the Palo Alto Parks and Recreation Commission has recently challenged the Council of the City of Palo Alto to create a culture of fitness in Palo Alto by wearing a pedometer and traveling at least 10,000 steps per day; swimming an hour per day; or biking an hour per day; and WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto has opportunities to positively affect the health of City employees and residents by accepting the challenge bestowed upon us by the Parks and Recreation Commission; and WHEREAS, workplace health programs, development of school- based policy, and access to recreation and physical activity will greatly enhance our health and well-being. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Palo Alto wishes to promote health awareness by all levels of government, collaborative action by interested communities, initiatives and policy by the Palo Alto Unified School District, development of workplace health and wellness policies and practice, and access to recreation and physical activity for all residents; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby recognizes that we are empowered to act as a role model for fitness, physical activity, nutrition and wellness, for the residents and employees of our City.
