RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO TOM ELLIOTT
UPON HIS RETIREMENT
WHEREAS, Tom Elliott began his career with the City of Palo.
Alto on January 17, 1972, and has served the City of Palo Alto and
its citizens as a Public Safety Dispatcher and Chief Dispatcher;
and
WHEREAS, Tom Elliott served the citizens of the City of
Mountain View and the City of Palo Alto and public safety personnel
as a dispatcher during the operation of a joint dispatch center
from 1976 to 1985; and
WHEREAS, Tom Elliott is recognized by his co-workers, City
staff, and police and fire personnel for his strong work ethic,
professionalism, empathy and quality customer service skills; and
WHEREAS, Tom Elliott has received countless letters of
appreciation and commendations from the public, police officers,
fire fighters and allied agencies for his superior performance
during emergencies, investigations and routine calls for service;
and
WHEREAS, Tom Elliott earned the highly prestigious Palo Alto
Dispatcher of the Year Award in 1986 and 1998; and
WHEREAS, Tom Elliott, who is an avid treasure hunter, served
the Palo Alto Police Department by utilizing his metal detection
capability and located the murder weapon during a homicide
investigation in May of 1985; and
WHEREAS, Tom Elliott has demonstrated a keen ability to adapt
to changes in his work environment having begun his career as a
Public Safety Dispatcher utilizing a single microphone, a phone,
pen and paper and.now operates highly sophisticated 9-1-1 radio and
computer systems; and
WHEREAS, Tom Elliott pursued his 29 years of emergency
services dispatching career with dedication, courtesy, and
professionalism and has been a role model for us all; and
WHEREAS, Tom Elliott plans to spend his retirement years with
his wife and continue his search for rare coins, artifacts and
treasures both in the United States and abroad.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the Council of the
City of Palo Alto hereby gratefully records and extends its sincere
appreciation and the appreciation of the community to Tom Elliott
for his faithful and excellent service rendered to the C"ity.
