HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 8031RESOLUTION PALO ALTO RESOLUTION NO. 8031 OF THE DONATING COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SURPLUS FIRE EQUIPMENT TO OAXACA, MEXICO WHEREAS, the Council did in 1964, establish a sister city affiliation with Oaxaca, MexicQ; and WHEREAS, the Council community interests of understanding; and desires to continue international and to serve the intercultural WHEREAS, the Fire Department has two surplus apparatus and equipment, a 1974 Crown Fire Engine and a Braun Ambulance (including gurney and rescue equipment); and fire 1996 WHEREAS, Neighbors Abroad is a volunteer organization that maintains and carries out the activities of the City of Palo Alto's officially recognized Sister City Program; and WHEREAS, Neighbors Department to donate this Mexico; and Abroad surplus has fire requested equipment the Fire to Oaxaca, WHEREAS, the population of Oaxaca, and surplus Mexico fire apparatus · would serve the by protecting life and property; WHEREAS, the Fire Chief of Palo Alto has communicated with the Fire Chief of Oaxaca and has confirmed the desire to accept such equipment; and WHEREAS, the Palo Alto University Rotary Club has volunteered to ship the surplus equipment to Mexicali, Mexico; and WHEREAS, the PEMEX Corporation has volunteered to ship the surplus equipment from Mexicali, Mexico to Oaxaca, Mexico; and WHEREAS, Neighbors Abroad has coordinated with the government of Oaxaca, Mexico and the government of Mexico for the transfer of said equipment; and WHEREAS, Government Code section 3711.0 city to spend money for promotion of sister affiliation programs. 010108 cl 0044087 1 authorizes a city and town NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. To authorize the City Manager to cause the donation and transfer of the surplus fire apparatus and equipment consisting of a 1974 Crown Fire Engine and a 1996 Braun Ambulance (including gurney and rescue equipment) to the City of Palo Alto's Sis~er City of Oaxaca, Mexico. SECTION 2. To authorize the Fire Chief of Palo Alto to coordinate with the Fire Chief of Oaxaca, Mexico, the Palo Alto University Rotary Club, the PEMEX Corporation, and the Palo Alto Neighbors Abroad for the transfer of the surplus. SECTION 3. The Council finds that this is not a project under the California Environmental Quality Act and, therefore, no environmental impact assessment is necessary.
