RESOLUTION NO ·8~
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO WILLIAM (BILL) P. TURNELL
UPON HIS RETIREMENT
WHEREAS, William P. Turnell began his employment with the
City of Palo Alto on December 12, 1960, and has served the
residents of Palo Alto for 40 years (to the day); and
WHEREAS, William P. Turnell has worked at each of the six
Palo Alto libraries during his career, beginning as a Library
Assistant, then a Library Associate and finally as a Librarian;
and
WHEREAS, William P. Turnell has provided library services
with courtesy, friendliness, a calm manner and a personal touch,
especially when helping children; and
WHEREAS, William P. Turnell has been appreciated by the
public for his ability to blend personal hobbies and interests
with his job, such as gracing College Terrace Library with a
long-term loan of his collection of old model cars and vintage
radios, which mesh with the 1930's spirit of the building; and
WHEREAS, William P. Turnell has been through the rise of
the new Main Library and Mitchell Park, Downtown and Terman Park
branches, the transfer from the manual circulation system to
bar-coded books, and the use of the Internet for information
research purposes; and
WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto desires to recognize the·
meritorious service of William P. Turnell upon his retirement.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Council of the
City of Palo Alto hereby gratefully records and extends its
sincere appreciation and the appreciation of the community to
William P. Turnell for his excellent service and contributions
rendered during his forty years of employment with the City.
