HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 7955RESOLUTION NO, 7955 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE CONSOLIDATED SPE.CIAL ELECTION HELD ON TUESDAY, MARCH 7, 2000 WHEREAS, on March 7, 2000, a special election was consolidated with the statewide primary election and duly held in the City of Palo Alto pursuant to the provisions of Article VI, Section 3 of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto for the purpose of submitting Measure G to the voters of the City, in the form set forth below: by law; and CITY OF PALO ALTO MEASURE G Shall the City of Palo Alto adopt Ordinance 4571, a historic preservation ordinance which prohibits, in most cases, the demolition of buildings listed on the Palo Alto Historic Register; requires City review and approval of certain exterior alterations to these buildings; and provides zoning incentives for the preservation of homes which are historic buildings? YES NO WHEREAS, due an<,i legal notice of the special election was given as required WHEREAS, on the 7th day of March 2000, at 7:00a.m., the polls were duly and regularly opened for the statewide primary and special elections and the polls were continuously kept open until 8:00p.m.; and WHEREAS, the Registrar of Voters of Santa Clara County has conducted a complete and official canvass of the returns of the elections; and WHEREAS, Article III, Section 4 of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto requires the Council to act as the canvassing board to canvass the results of such elections; and WHEREAS, on April 10, 2000, the Council of the City of Palo Alto met at its . usual place of meeting, canvassed the returns of the statewide primary and special elections and declared the results thereof; NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. The Council finds and declares that: (a) A special election consolidated with the statewide primary election was duly and regularly held on March 7, 2000, according to the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, Resolution 7898 and 7911, and the election laws of the State of California for the purpose of considering Measure G. (b) The total number of votes cast in the City at said Special Election, including votes cast upon absentee ballots, was 20,533 on 22,478 ballots (62.6% turnout); (c) The total number of votes given and cast for Measure G at said election, including votes cast upon absentee ballots, was as follows: YES 9,793 NO 10,740 TOTAL 20,533 SECTION 3. Attached hereto as Exhibit "A" and incorporated herein by this reference is the statement of the results as required by Section 10264 of the California Elections Code. Ferguson, Registrar of Voters of the County of Santa Clara, State of California, hereby declare that a Special Municipal Election was held in the CITY OF PALO ALTO on March 7, 2000 for the purpose of submitting Measure G to the voters of said City; and to wit: G Shall the City of Palo Alto adopt Ordinance 4571, a historic preservation ordinance which prohibits, in most cases, the demolition of buildings listed on the Palo Alto Historic Register; requires City review and approval of certain exterior alterations to these buildings; and provides zoning incentives for the preservation of homes which are historic buildings? That the official canvass of the returns of said election was conducted by the office of the Registrar of Voters in accordance with the appropriate provisions of the Elections Code of the State of California; and That the Statement of Votes Cast, hereto attached, shows the whole number of votes cast for each candidate in the CITY OF PALO ALTO, and in each of the respective precincts; and that the totals shown for each candidate are true and correct.
