RESOLUTION 7919
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
COMMENDING THE OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE
OF JOSEPH HUBER AS MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBER
WHEREAS, Joseph Huber was elected to the City Council of the
City of Palo Alto in: 1991, re-elected in 1995, and served in the
distinguished roles of Vice Mayor in 1996 and Mayor in 1997 and;
WHEREAS, Joseph Huber served as a Member of the Finance
Committee in 1995-96 and 1998-99, and as Chairperson in 1999; and
served as Member of the Policy and Services Committee from 1992-94 and
as Chairperson in 1994; and
WHEREAS, during his Council tenure, Joseph Huber provided
creative and effective leadership, financial oversight, civic
responsibility and legal insight to the City of Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, during his Mayorship, Joseph Huber was well known
for his decisive leadership ability to get things done in a very
limited amount of time, his ability to keep a level head and establish
a controlled political environment so that the City Council and the
community could focus on the complex and important policy issues
surrounding the Sand Hill Road project in as dispassionate manner as
possible; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Huber sponsored and encouraged legislation
ensuring that public art and good design .would be incorporated into
significant public projects; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Huber demonstrated his long-standing
commitment to the city's youth by encouraging programs that serve
youngsters ~hroughout the community, supporting the creation of ·and
funding for a teen center and encouraging additional quality childcare
facilities throughout the city; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Huber is known for his succinct humor, his
often acerbic commentary, and his sidebar sayings.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City
of Palo Alto hereby commends the outstanding public service of Joseph
Huber and gratefully records its appreciation, as well as the
appreciation of the citizens of this community, for the meritorious
service rendered and contributions made during his term on the Council.
