RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO EXPRESSING
APPRECIATION TO SHARON WINSLOW ERICKSON UPON HER DEPARTURE
WHEREAS, Sharon Winslow Erickson began her job as Palo Alto's City Auditor on July 16,
2001 and has become one of the most respected employees in the City; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Winslow Erickson has issued 113 audits and informational reports that
included 305 recommendations during her six-and-a-half-year tenure; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Winslow Erickson has served Palo Alto residents with tenacity, high ethical
standards, and grace and has created the "Erickson Model" for auditing; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Winslow Erickson has inspired the staff in the Office of the City Auditor to
do their best work and improve government accountability for the residents of Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Winslow Erickson's revenue audits have identified more than $2,000,000 in
additional revenue for the City of Palo Alto and her performance audits have identified numerous
operational efficiencies and additional savings; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Winslow Erickson has spent at least 2,300 hours (the equivalent of 1.10
FTE) attending City Council meetings, Finance Committee meetings, Policy and Services Committee
meetings, Utility Risk Oversight Committee meetings, as well as other meetings with City staff; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Winslow Erickson has established the Office of the City Auditor as a well-
respected entity among City employees and local residents and was dubbed "the most trusted person in
City Hall" by the Palo Alto Weekly; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Winslow Erickson created the Service Efforts and Accomplishments Report,
which includes at least 4,488 numbers about City services and has become a critical resource for City
officials and residents; and
WHEREAS, the Office of the City Auditor won 11 auditing awards during Sharon Winslow
Erickson's tenure and has become a leader in performance auditing among local government audit shops.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Palo Alto
hereby gratefully records and extends its sincere appreciation to Sharon Winslow Erickson for her
dedication and excellent service rendered to the City.

MOTION: Mayor Klein moved, seconded by Council Member Barton to
continue agenda item number 11 to Monday, February 25, 2008.

MOTION: Council Member Morton moved, seconded by Council Member
Barton to adopt the Resolution Expressing Appreciation to Sharon Winslow
Erickson Upon Her Departure
MOTION PASSED: 9-0
City Auditor Sharon Erickson stated her appreciation to the Council, City
Staff, the community and her staff over her six and a half years of service.
Council Member Kishimoto shared her thoughts of appreciation to Ms.
Erickson.
