RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF
ACCEPTING AN INVITATION FROM
SWEDEN TO BECOME A

SISTER CITY
PALO ALTO
LlNKOPING,
WHEREAS, the sister city concept was inaugurated by the
President of the United States in 1956 to establish greater
frier.1ship and un<lerstanding between the peoples of the United
States and other nations through the medium of direct personal
contact: and
WHEREAS, to implement this program, Palo Alto and other
communities in the United States have been requested by Sister
Cities International to affiliate with cities in other nations of
~imilar charact~ristics and mutual interest: and
WHEREAS, the City nf Palo Alto has ~ssigned the
responsibility for carrying out the Palo Alto Sister City program
to Neighbors Abroad: and
WHEREAS, Neighbors Abroad recommen1s that the City of ~alo
Alt.o accept the invitation of the City of Linkoping, Sweden to
establish a sister city relationship between the Cities of Palo
Alto and Linkoping: and
WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto, thcough Neighbors Abroa~,
recognizes and endorses this program with the h~pe that it will
lead to a lasting friendship between the people of Palo A!to and
I.inkoping, Sweden ..
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE:
Section 1. This C~uncil, on behalf of the people of Palo,
Alto does hereby accept the invitation of the government and the
people of ~he City of Linkoping, S'weden, to participate with Palo
Alto as its sister city for the purpose of creating greater a~tual
; ~derstanding between the peoplee of ~ur two citie3 and nat!onY.
Section 2. 'nte Mayor hereby authorizes Neighbors Abroad of
Palo Alto to act as official repres&ntative of The City of Palo
Alto to carry out this programL
Sect.ion 3. Copies of this Resolution are to be sent to the
Mayor and Council of the City of Linkoping, Sweden, Sister Cities
International in Washington, n.c., the Swedish Embassy, and the
United St11tes Bllba:'!S} in Swedene
