HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 6590r .. • • ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 6590 RESOLUTIO~~ OP' THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO ADDING AN ORBAN DESIGN PROGRAM REGARDI~G HIS1'0R!C PRESERVATION IN TBE DOWNTOWN AREA WHEREAS, the Planning Comaission has conducted a r~view and on December 10, 1986, h~ld a properly-noticed public hearing to consider a•endaent to the Palo Alto Comprehensive Planr and HHEKEAS, the City Council of the City of Palo Alto on January 19 , 1987, held a properly-notic;ed public hearing to consider aaendaent to the Palo Alto Comprehensive Plan. NOW, ·mEREFORE, the Council of the City cf Palo Alto doe3 RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. The Council finds that changed conditions dnd the public interest, health, safety, and welfare require aaendment to the ·Palo Alto Comprehens.i.ve Plan as set forth in section 2 hereof .. SECTION 2. Progras lOC is hereby added to the Urban Design Eleaent of the Palo Alo coaprehensive Plan to read: lOC: In order further to encQurage historic preservation in the Downtown Area, allow parking exeaptions for s•all residential historic buildings in the University Avenue Parking Assessaent T'istrict whict ara undergoing rehabilitation in conjunc~ion with conversion fro• reside~tial to coaaercial us&. Require findings during the design review process that the historic and at:'ehitectural inte9rity of the exteriors of such ~uildings be aaint~ined after rehabilitation. SECTION 3. The Council her•by finds that the adoption of this t:dsolut1on will not cause any significant environ•ental i•pact. INTRODUCED AND PASS.ED: January !9, 1987 AYES: Bechtel, Cobb, Fletcher, Klein, levy, Patitucci, Renzel, Sutorius NOES: None ABST!NTIONS: None ABSENT: 'Woolley •I .•. • • APPROVED: .. • • RESOLUTION NO. 6591 RESOLUTION OF TdE COUNCIL OF TffE CITY OF PALO ALTO ACCEPTING AN INVITATION FROM THE CITY OF LINKOPING, SWEDEN TO BECOME A SISTER CITY WHEREAS, the sieter city concept was inaugurated by the President of the United States in 1956 to establish g1~~ter friendship and understanding between the peoples of the Unit€.d St~tes and other nations through the medium of direct personal cor.:;act; and WHEREAS, to implement this program, Palo Alto and other communities in the Unitad States have been requested by Sister Cities Internatior.al to affiliate with cities in other ~ations of similar characteristics and mutual interest; and WHEREAS, the City of p,:iJ.o Alto has assigned the responsibility for cart·ying out the Palo Alto Sister City program to Neighbors Abro«dj and WHEREAS, Neigh;.;ors Abroad recommendP that the City of Palo Alto accept the invitation of the City of Linkoping, Sweden to establish a sister city relationship between the Cities of Palo Alto and Linkoping; and WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto, through Neighbors Abroad, recognizes and endorses this progra~ with the hope that it will lead to a lasting friendship between the people of Palo Alto and Linkoping, Sweden. NON, THEREFOR£, the Council of the City of Palo Alto d~es RESOl..VE: se~tion l. This Councll, on behalf of the people of Palo, Alto does hereby accept the invitation of the go?ernaent and the people of the City of Linkoping, SWeden, to participate with Palo Al to as its sister city for the pu~pose Qf ~reating greater 11utt..1.al understanding between the ~~oples of our two cities and nations. Section 2. The Mayor heceby authorizes Neighbors Abroad of Palo Alto to act as official representative of The City of Palo Alto to carry out this program. Section 3. Copies of this Reaolution are to be sent t'o the Mayo:.· and Council of the City of Linkcping, Sweden, Sister Cities International in ~ashington, D.C.r the Swedish Embassy, and the United States Embassy in Sweden.
