RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
HONORING MlCHAEL W. COBB
WHEREAS, Micha91 W. Cobb has served as ~~ayor of Palo A:.to from
January 6, 1986 to January s, 1987: and
WHEREAS, Mike thoroughly enjoyed representing the Council as the
master of ceremonies at ma11y events, attending Chamber of Comm.;rce
meetings, addressing the Board of Realtors, tossing the first ball at
a Giants' game, attending the Japanese Cultural Festival, and cutting
the ribbor. at tht opening of the Garden Court Hotel: nnd
WHEREAS, Mike, during his ~ayorship, showed tremendous initiative in
meeting with the various chairpersons of the boards, commissions, and
committee..; to establish agendas for joint meetings ~ith the council,
urged the Counc:;il to •posture succinctly• during their 6.el iberat ions
at meetings, and encouraged inr-ut and cooperat:.on of the City Council,
staff, and the co~munity1 and
WHEREAS, Mike's strc.ng commitment to preserve the quality of the
Ci.ty of Falc Alto is reflected in his thoughtful appointment of
member;..· to the Child Care Task Force and the Downtown Design and
At.Aenitie~ Co•~ittee, and in his developing an efficient and effective
process for the Council 1 s review of the Downtown Study Comaittee' s
Report; and
WHEREAS, Mike persuaded the Council to hold their first retreat
and in forming a Palo l'ilto Futurecast 2C01 Comaittee to r&view the
complex issues and opportunitiets facing the C tty bet.ieen now and the
year 200h and
NBBREAS, during hie term, the City Council, staff, and the com-
munity have enjoyed his sense of humor, accessibility, and charismatic
personality1 and
WHEREAS, Mike represented the City of Palo Alto as the delegate
!:.o the City/School Liaison Committe• and the League of California
Cities Peninsula Division, an~ as alternate to the Nortn&rn. Califo~nia
Power Agency.
NOW, TBBRBFORB, BE IT RESOLVED, that his c:::.lleagues on the City
Council do hereby honor Michael N. Cobb and ~nvey to hi• their appre-
ciation for hie •any secvices to the City of Palo Alto du~ing his t&rm
as Mayor.
