HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 6568• • ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 6568 RESOLUT~ON OF THE COUNCIL OF~T~H~E~C~I~T~'i OF PALO ALTO PROVIDING AUTHO!UT1 TO THE CI'I'i MANAGER TO Ef'FECT CERTAIN CHANGES IN GAS UTILITY RATES (~CHEDULES G-1 AND G-50) AMENDING RESOLUTION 6453 WHEREAS, the Californi= Public Utiiitias Commission periodically hears and grants gas rate adjustments to Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG~E); and WHE~EAS, said PG&E rate adjus~ments are ba~erl on fluctuations in costs to PG&E from certain gas producing companies, tax law changes, exchange-rate changes, i~creased operating expenses, rate of return aujustaents, and si•ilar items reflecting the financial co~dition of PG&B7 ctnd WHEREAS, it is desirable for the City of Palo Alto to adjust its gas rates promptly upon commencement of an increase from PG&E in order to avoid loss of revenue. NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Pelo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: S£CTION 1. Effective October 1, 1986, the City Manager is hereby authorized to adjust the gas rates -;)-! the City of Palo Alto contained in Schedule G-l and G-50 of the City of Palo Alto Utilities Rates and Charges to ref l~ct wholes~le gas rate increases and to track eG&E's retail rate schedules G-1, G-~ and G-S01 the action of the City Mana;er shall be nondiscretionary. Tl~ Palo Alto Gas Rate Schedules G-l and G-50 shall substantially con!orm ~ith those rates contained on PG&~ General Service Rate Schedulss G-1, G-2 and G-50 applicable to th., Peninsula-San Joae geographical area1 provided that, in the event any •pplicable custo .. r, de~and or commodity charges (or a combination thereof) included in any retail rate schedule, produces a composite rate below the City's ~holesale cost of gas, then such retail rate shall be adjusted to a level vhich is $.OS (S cents) above the City's wholesale cost of gas. The effective date of said adj!Jst•onts to Schedules G~l and G-50 shall be the sa11te date on which the rate increases fro• Psciflc Gas & Elect~ic Company becomes effective. SECTION 2. The City Manager shall report any change in gas rates authorized by this resolution to the City Council aa soon as practicable. lf the City Council approves such changes, it shall do so by reaolution. SECTION 3. The Council of the City of Palo Alto finds that the revenue derived fc.:>11 the authorioied adj1~staent of said gas rate*' by the City flan.ager ahall be used only for the purposes set out in the Palo Alto City Charter, Article VII, Section 2, ~ntitled • • •Public Utilities Revenue•.
