RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF . ·•.r_.o ALTO
AUTHORIZING THAT A GRANT APPLICATION FOR k FUEL
EFFICIENT TRAFFIC SIGNAL PROGRAM BE SUBMITTED TO
THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto re~ognizes
that it is in the interest of the national and city economies to
promote conservation of energy resources1 and
WHEREAS, funds have been establishej and ~re available
through the California Department of Transportation for grants to
local California agencies for fuel efficient traffic signal
management projects: and
WHEREAS, these funds are expressly for the purpose of
promoting reduced energy consumption on local street systems1 and
WHERE.1&8, the City of Palo Al to has acq.uired a Mul tisonics
VMS 220 Traffic Signal System to coordinate traffic ejqnals in
Palo Alto1 and
WBERBAS, the City of Palo Alto ne~ds to collect and
prepare a database to coordinate traffic signals in Palo Alto in
order to enhance the environment through reduced fuel consumption,
reduced vehicle emission, reduced vehicle operating costs, and
improved safety1
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as follows:
Section t. The Council hereby authorizes the submittal of
a City of Palo Alto applicaton to the California Department of
Transportation for a Fifty Four Thousand Dollar ($54~000.00) grant
for assistance in coll~cting and preparing a database to
coordinate t~affic signals in the Palo Alto.
Section '· The City Manager is hereby authorized and
empowered to ezecut~, in the name of the City of Palo ~lto, all
necessary applicationP, contracts and agreements tc implement and
carry out the purpose specified in this resoution.
Section 3. The Couhc11 finds that this project will have
no significant enviromnental impact.
