RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR RELOCATING
THE CALIFORNIA STATE FIRE ACADEMY
WHEREAS, The California State Fire Academy is to be relocated by the
California State Fire Marshal; and
WHEREAS, The California State Fire Academy is a primary educational resource
for the firefighters of the City of Palo Alto and firefighters of the cOITlilunities
of the San Francisco Bay Area; and
WHEREAS, there is a growing need to integrate fire science training and
the technology of California industry; and
WHEREAS, the relocation of the Califo!"flia State Fire Academy should address
the needs of hazardous materials, computerization, medical research, urban life,
environmental protection concerns of California; and
WHEREAS, West Valley Joint Cormiunity College District has applied to the
State Fire Marshal for consideration as the future site of the California State
Fire Academy; and
WHEREAS, Mission Comunity College, of the West Valley District,. provides
all elements necessary to establish a fire academy in the tradition of excellence;
and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Palo Alto hereby
requests the California State Fire Marshal to select Nission Conmunity College
as the future sit~ for the California State Fire Academy.
