RESlJLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE C ITV OF PALU ALTO
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO
JACK TA VLOO
UPON HIS RETIREMENT

WHEl{EA$, Jack Tay1or has served the City of Palo Alto for 37 years primarily as
our Chief Electrical Engineer for tne Ut i1 ities Department; and
WHrnEAS, Jack Taylor pursued his duties for tne City with enthusiasm.diligence,
competence, thoroughness, and an excellent sense of diplomacy and willingness to
respond to public need; and
WHEREAS, Jack Taylor performed a major role in the growth of tt'E? Electric
Department Wiile the electric demand yrew from 8 megawatts in 1949 to 181 megawatts in
1985, a growtn of 2,3UO percent wtiHe the City's population only doubled; and
WHEREAS, Jack. Taylor was active as tne City's representative of Western Utility
Electric Service Standardization Committee, was a member of the Western lflderground
Committee, a ment>er of the Institute of Electrical Enyineers. and an active pilot in
the business of the City; and
WHrnEAS, through tne admirable efforts of Jack Tay1or tre City grew from the
"bare-bulo" street 1ight to the present lighting system, instituted develojXllent of loop
detectors for traffic signals, and implemented its underground ing program; ;ind
WHEREAS, Olief Eiectrical Engineer Jack Taylor will rettre on December 30, 1985.
NOW, THEREF~E, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Palo Alto reret>y
gratefully records its appreciation and the appreciation of the citizens of this
c011111unity for the laudable services rendered to the City and extends to Jack Taylor its
sincere aj)preciat1on and best wishes for a healthy and fulfilling future.
