wHER.EAS, Anne R. Witherspoon has served the City of Palo Alto as Councilmember
from July 1, 1975 to November 20, 1985; and
WHEREAS, in 1983, Anne R. Witherspoon served as Vice Mayor of Palo Alto; anrl
WHE~EAS, Anne R. Witherspoon served seven terms on the Pol icy & Procedures
Contnittee; and
WHEREAS, Anne Witherspoon served four terms o~ the Finance & Public ~orks
Cormlittee, and was Chair of that Corn1ittee in 1982-83; and
WHEREAS, during her service on the ?ala Alto City Council, Anne R. Witherspoon
represented the City of Palo Alto at numerous 1ocal, state, and regiona~ agencies,
including City/School Liaison Committee, Santa Clara Valley Water Commission, Santa
Clara Valley Water Uistrict Northwest Flood Control Zone Advisory Committee, Emergency
Medical Care Committee, Senior Coordinatiny Council t and Palo Alto Cormiunity Oli Id
Care; and
WHE~EAS, in all aspects of her service on the Palo Alto City Council, Council-
member Anne R. ~itherspoon !]ave unselfishly of her time and talents and provided
effective and dedicated leadership on behalf of the total co!TITiunity; and
WHE~EAS, through her efforts and contributions, the City of Pa1o Alto has
enhanced its position of eminence in r·espondiny to the n1::eds and desires of its
citizens; and
WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto desires to recognize Anne R. Witherspoon's
dedicated and meritorious service.
NOW, THEREF~E, BE IT RESOLVED tnat the Counc i1 of the City of Palo Alto hereby
reco~nizes the outstanding, dedicated public service of Anne R. Witherspoon and records
its appreciation, as we11 as the appreciation of the citizens of thi$ community,, for
the many contributions rendered durin~ her terms on the Council.
