HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 6383RESOLUTION 6383 e ORIGINAL RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL Of THE CITY OF PALO ALTO RECOGNIZING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE GOLDEN EAGLES WOMEN'S SOCCER CLUB ANO RECO~MENOING SUPPORT WHEREAS, the Golden Eagles Women's Soccer Club of Palo Alto f s the first club of 1ts kind on the peninsula; and WHEREAS, the Palo Alto Golden Eagles Women's Soccer Club originated fn the summer of 1983, with the belief that local women soccer players could strive for a higher level of performance; and WHEREAS, the Golden Eagles Women's Soccer Club is bringing national and international recognition to Palo Alto and the Bay Area; and WHEREAS, the role of women's athletics is an fmportant social and community function; and WHEREAS, the Golden Eagles Women's Soccer Club has just won the California State Championship; and WHEREAS_ the Golden Eagles Women's Soccer Club will thereby represent Ca 1 if ornf a in the Wes tern Regf ona 1 tournament of the National Amateur Women's Championship competition on May 16-20, 1985 in Phoenix, Arizonai and WHEREAS, the Golden Eagles Women's Soccer Club of Palo Alto needs and will benefit from donations for their transportation, lodging, food and other expenses. NOW, THEREFORE, the Cfty of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as fol- lows: Section 1. That the Council recogn1ze the outstanding acco11p1fsh11ents of the Palo Alto Golden Eagles Women's Soccer Club. Section 2. That the Council urge the citizens and businesses in-the C1ty of Palo Alto to contribute to the support of the Golden Eagles Women's Soccer Club 1 s endeavors.
