RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
CONGRATULATING PARTICIPANTS IN PALO ALTO'S
DOWNTOWN ARCHITECTURAL CHARETTE
WHEREAS, from November 2 through November 4, 1984, the
Downtown Architectural Charette was held fn Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, Professor Paul Neel and twenty~three architectural
students from California Polytechnic State Unfvers1ty at San Luis
Obispo generously d~nated their t1•e and efforts; and
WHEREAS, f1ve teams of architectural students worked on
cha~leng1ng design assignments for Downtown Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, the scope of these design assignments for each team
were: a) Tea11 1 and 2 illustrated how potential growth could be
reduced fn Downtown Palo Alto; b) Team J illustrated how traff1c and
parking could be improved 1n selected areas of Downtown; c) Team 4
iliustrated how to protect adjacent ne1ghborhoods from Downtown
traff1c; d) Tea11 5 developed concepts on visionary uses of nearby
Southern Pac1f1c land; and
WHEREAS, each team worked diligently and creatively during
the students 48 hour stay 1n Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, each tea• presented 1nnovat1ve and thought provoking
conceptual designs at a public presentation on November 4, 1984; and
WHEREAS, 11elftbers of the City Council, Planning Commission,
Arch1tectural Review Board, H1stor1c Resources Board, and c1tfzens of
Pa 1 o A 1 to ha v e bee n nto st e nth u s 1 a s t i c 1 n th e 1 r re s pons e to the
designs and fdeas generated by this Downtown Architectural Charette.
HOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City
of P~lo Alto hereby gratefully records its appreciation and
congratulations as well as the appreciation of the community, for the
outstanding aehfevements and hard work of Professor Paul Neel and the
students fro• Calffornfa Polytechnic State University at San Luis
Obispo.
