HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 6238RESOLUTION 62 3 D • ORIGINAL KtSULUTlUN OF THE COUNCIL OF THE ClTY UF PALO ALTO KEGAMOlN~ MtASURE "A": A MEASURE FOR THE PRESERVATION ANO MAINTENANCE UF UE ANZA AND FOOTHILL COLLEGES WHEREAS, maintaining the quality of educational resources like Foothill and De Anza t:ol leyes is important to the welfare of the citizens of the City of Palo Alto; and WHEREAS, years of deteriorating fi nancia 1 resources have prompted the Foothil 1-0e Anza Corm1unity College Di strict to seek. special funding to preserve the standards of excellence of Foothill and Oe Anza Colleges; and WHtREAS, the Board of Trustees of the Foothill-De Anza Corrmunity College Oistr1ct has called an election for April 10, 1984, to submit to the electors Measure A, entitled "A Measure for the Preservation and Maintenance of De Anza and Foothill Colleges" which proposes that a special tax be levied in the District; and WHEktAS, the proceeds from the proposed special tax will be used exclusively for the limited purposes of buying necessary laboratory, technical, sci~ntiftc and other equipment for better transfer and job training programs, purchasing library books and repairing, maintaining, and improving college buildings; and · WHEKEAS, the Board of Trustees of the District can reduce or repeal thP tax if additional funds are found but may not under any circumstances increase the tax; and WH£KEAS, the tax must be returned to the voters at least e'iery four years and may be repealed by a simple majorit.Y vote; and WHEKEAS, State funding proposa\s for COllS'llunity co1 l~ges and the imposition of tuition on co111nunity college students will not meet the accumulated maintenance, repair, library acquisition and equipment needs of Foothill and De Anza Colleges.
