COMMENDING CALIFORNIA ELECTED WOMEN'S ASSO~IATION
FOK EDUCATION AND RESEARCH ON THE OCCASION OF ITS
TENTH ANNIVEHSARY
WHt::Rt:AS, the Cdlifornia Elected Women's Association for
Education and Research was founded in February, 1974 as the first
statewide association to facilitate the election of women to
public. office.
~HtREAS, CEWAER 1 s rnember5hip encompasses womeo and men in a
wide variety of public offices, including senators, members of the
assembly, supervisors, councilmembers, mayors 5 members of school
boards, community college trustees, members of Boards of
Equalization, government executives, and individuals interested in
the political process; anc
WHEKEAS, CEWAEK encourages women to run for public office by
providing a network of support and information for current and
asptring office holders, by offering a forum for women who hold
public offlce, by sponsor1ng seminars on campaign strategies,
techniques, and political skills, and by educating women on public
issues and stimulating researcn on women and their role in
government; and
WHtREAS, CEWAER has been the crucible for an increase in the
number women elected to hold public office in California and has
been the inspiration for the estab11shment of similar
organizations in other states around the country.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City
of Pdlo Alto does hereby congratulate CEWAER on the completion of
its first decade of service to women and to the entire state of
Califcrnia by helping women increase their participation in
elected and appointed offices and aoes further extend to CEWAER
its sincere best wishes for continued and ~xpanded success in the
future.
