JULY 29 THkOUGH AUGUST 8, 1984
WH£RtA~. the Garnes of the XXIllrd Olympiad are to be held
in Los Ang€1es, California, July 28-August 12, 1984; and
WHI::IUAS, nine first round, quarter-final, and se111i-final
Ulyrnpic soccer matches are to be played at Stanford Stadium in
Palo Alto, July 2~ thiough August 8; and
WHtl<EAS, the Los Angeles Olympic Orya:iizing Committee has
develoµed the Olympic Neighbor Program to provide Olympic
Neighbors with the latest information about the games and the
opportunitJ to coordinate Olympic related activities; and
WH~~EA$, the cities of Palo Alto dnd Menlo Park as the host
cities will participate in tne Olympic Neighbor Proyram through
the appointment of steering commit tees from the two adjacent
communlties; and
WH~REAS, the steering committees are planning their first
organized meeting for December 14, at which time they \o'il l
determine tneir objectives, goals and programs for the next six
months; and
WHE~tAS, a large turnout of enthusiastic volunteers are
expected to kickoff the Neighbor Programs in February 1984 to
make the wnole Bay Area more aware of the activities surrounding
the Olympic soccer games at Stanford; and
WHE~EAS, one hundred countries have already begun the quest
for the 1984 Olympic gold medal in soccer; and
WHE.REAS, Palo Alto is proud to participate with Stanford
University and the City of Menlo Park in hosting this
1nterndtional soccer event.
