RESOLUTION NO. 6195
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AUTHORIZING THAT A GRANT APPLICATION FOR A FUEL
EFFICIENT TRAFFIC SIGNAL PROGRAM BE SUBMITTED TO
THE CALIFORNIA ENERGY COMMISSION
WHEREAS, the City c..f Palo Al to recognizes that it is in the inter--
est of the national and City economies to promote conservation of
energy resources: and
WHEREAS, the California Departm~nt of Transportation/Calif0:.:n.ia
Energy Commission has established funds for grants to local California
agencies for fuel efficient traffic signal management projects; and
WHEREAS, these funds are expressly for the purpose of promoting
reduced energy consumption on local street systems; and
WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto has acquired a Multisonics VMS 220
traffic signal system to coordinate traffic signals in Palo AltoJ and
WHEREAS, the City needs to collect and prepare a database to
coordinate traffic signals in the City of Palo Alto in order to enhance
the environment through reduced fuel consumption, reduced vehicle
emmission, reduced vehicle operating costs, and improved safety~
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE
as follows:
SEC'rION l. The Council hereby authorizes the submittal of a City
application to the California Energy Commission for a grant for Forty-
six Thousand Two Hundred Dollars ($46,200) for assistance in collecting
and preparing a database to coordinate traffic signals in the City of
Palo Alto.
SECTION 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized and empowered to
execute in the name of the City of Palo Alto all necessary applica-
tions, contracts and agreements to implement and carry out the purpose
specified in this resolution.
SECTION 3. The Council finds that this project will have no
significant environmental impact.
