RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
CONGRATULATING VARIAN ASSOCIATES
FOR RECEIVING THE CALIFORNIA WATER POLLUTION CONTROL
ASSOCIATION 1 S 1983 "INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER CONTROL 11 AWARD
WHEREAS. VARIAN ASSOCIATES is one of the originai electronics industries
headquartered in Palo Alto, California; and
WHEREAS, Varian Associate5 has been involved in several erw1roomental
efforts over the years including; early wastewater control efforts, noise
reduction, meetings with neighboring residences about envircnmental concerns.
recent participation in the development of the Santa Clara County Fire Chiefs
Association Hazardous Materials fibdel Ordinance, and continuing involvement
in regulating development at the state and federal level; and
WHEREAS, the California Water Pollution Control Association (CWPCA)
founded the Industrial Wastewater Control Award in 1971, to be given to
private industry who had achieved or exhibited a poslton of recognition for
accomplishment in the area of industrial wastewater control; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the award is to stimulate interest on the part
of industry in taking positive steps to meet current water pollution control
standards; and
WHEREAS, the selection of Varian Associates for this honor is reflective
of their efforts to maintain good relations with the co1T111unity and the high
degree of reliability designed into their wastewater treat.'llent and hazardous
waste program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Palo Alto
hereby gratefully records its appreciation and congratulations, as well as
the appreciation of the colllnunity, for the outstanding achievements in the
area of industrial wastewater control of Varian Associates.
