RESOLUTION NO. 5959
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
URGING THE SANTA CLARA COuNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
TO PASS A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION
OF SENATE BILL 215
WHEREAS, both Houses of the California Legislature have adopted
Senate Bill 215 by an overwhelming majority; and
WHEREAS, the Governor of California has signed the measun• into
law; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Palo Alto supported adop-
tion of this legislation during the last legislative session; and
WHEREAS, the implementation of this legislation would provide the
City of Palo Alto with additional funds earmarked for local streets and
highways; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Public Works of the City of Palo Alto has
reported to the City Council on the need for additional funds in order
to maintain the City's inventory of streets and highways; and
WHEREAS, the provisions of Senate Bill 215 will not become opera-
tive unless the County Boards of Supervis0rs representing two-thiids of
the state's population pass resolutions calling for its implementation
within the next sixty days:
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE
as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council does hereby express its continuing
support for Senate Bill 215.
SECTION 2. The City Council does hereby urge the Board of Super-
visors cf the County of Santa Clara to adopt the appropriate resolution
so that the provisions of Senate Bill 215 may be implemented.
