RESOLUT!ON 5895
RESOLU~ION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO THE
VOLUNTEERS OF PALO ALTO FOR OUTSTANDING
PUBLIC SERVICE IN THE FRUIT REMOVAL
PROJECT
WHEREAS, The environment of the City of Palo Alto, the County of
Santa Clara and the State of California was seriously threatened
by a Mediterranean Fruit Fly infestation; and
WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Palo Alto and the people of
the community were committed to assist in ~he eradication of the
Mediterranean Fruit Fly and were opposed to the aerial spraying of
malathion; and
WHEREAS, Seven Hundred volunteers from Palo Alto and surrounding
communities gave their t.ime and assistance tirelessly and un-
selfishly to meet this challenge; and
WHEREAS, The fruit removal volunteers were instrumental in the
success of the fruit removal program; and
WHEREAS, The City of Palo Alto wishes to recognize the service
of the fruit removal valwiteers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of
Palo Alto hereby gratefully records its appreciation, as well as
the appreciation of the citizens of the conununity, for the out-
standing public service rendered by the Palo Alto Fruit removal
volunteers.
