RESOWT!ON OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
CONGRATULATING THE YMCA OF THE MID-PENINSULA
ON ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS: a Palo Alto branch of the Young Men's Christian
Association (YMCA) was established in 1893, the year before our
City's incorporation; and
WHEREAS, in 1939 the YMCA of Palo Alto was formally
incorporated as an independent YMCA Association serving our area,
and has grown from its first mission of "helping boys learn to go
straight" to a multi-branch organization serving children, youth
and adults of all ages and both sexes, without re<jard for race,
ethnic background or religion; and
WHEREAS, for 50 years as a volunteer organization the YMCA
in Palo Alto has provided outstanding leadership development for
youth and adults, thereby enhancing the social fabric of our
community; and
WHEREAS, the national reputation of our local YMCA and its
achievements in health ~nhancement, youth development, family
enrichment, and older adult activities have created a regional
service community that earned its new identity as the YMCA of the
Hid-Peninsula: and

WHEREAS, the YMCA of the Mid-Peninsula is dedicated to
strengthening and enriching the mental, physical, and spiritual
wellness of all people; and to iJlProving human conditions within
the changing patterns of family and comaunity life.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council Of the
City of Palo Alto extends appreciation and congratulations to the
YMCA of the Mid-Peninsula for its 50 years of service to our
community.
