WHEREAS, The Association of Bay Area Governments, in
cooperation with local, regional, state and Federal
aqencies, and environmental and recreational organizations
throughout the nine Bay Area counties, has developed a plan
for the Bay Trail; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Trail will link recreation and open
space areas throughout the San Francisco Bay reqion with 400
miles of hiking and bicycling facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Trail will enhance opportunities for
recreational walking and recreational and commute bicycling
for Bay Area residents; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Trail will secure access to the Bay
without conflicting with efforts to preserve the Bay and its
natural enviroruaentu
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT p~,::::oLVED that the Council of the
City of Palo Alto endorses the Day Trail Plan as follows:
section l. The City council supports the proposed Bay
Trail Plan aliqnaent identified for the Palo Alto area~ but
requests that the Association of Bay Area Governments CABAG)
aaend the spur trail plan as shown for Palo Alto to indicate
reference to the trail to the east and northwest of the Palo
Alto Airport runway as "proposed• consistent with the Santa
Clara county Trails and Pathways Plan.
