ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1999 -00 TO
PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION OF $400,000 FOR THE
FIBER OPTIC CUSTOMER DESIGN AND CONNECTION SERVICES
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NUMBER 9802
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 12 of Article
III of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, the Council on June 28,
1999 did adopt a budget for fiscal year 1999-00; and
WHEREAS, the Fiber Optics Customer Design and Connection
Services capital improvement project provides funding for the
addition of new fiber optics for customer connections 1 including the
installation of new conduitsl fiber optic cables, splices l and
enclosures; and
WHEREAS, the volume of requests for
fiber optic network has accelerated over
the increased competition in the bus
connections; and
connections to the City's
last six months due to
s market for fiber optic
WHEREAS, it is projected that 18 additional customers will
request service connections by the end of this fiscal year at a cost
of $400,000; and
WHEREAS, an additional appropriation of $400,000 is needed to
fulfill the request for service connections; and
WHEREAS, this cost will be fully reimbursed by customers; and
WHEREAS 1 the additional appropriation of funds is a one-time
cost and no future year ongoing costs are anticipated; and
WHEREAS, City Council authorizatiori is needed to amend the
1999-00 budget as hereinafter set forth.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Al to does
ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION J. Revenue in the Electric Fund is increased by the
sum of $400,000 to reflect reimbursement from customers for servi1ce
connections.
SECTION 2. The sum of Four Hundred Thousand Dollars ($400 1 000)
is hereby appropriated to Capital Improvement Program Project Number
9802, Customer Design and Connection Services.
SECTION 3. As specified in Section 2.28.080(a) of the Palo
Alto Municipal Code, a two-thirds vote of the City Council is
required to adopt this ordinance.
SECTION 4. This project is categorically exempt from the
provisions of the California· Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
pursuant to Section 15301 (existing facilities) of the CEQA
guidelines.
SECTION 5. As provided in Section 2.04.350 of the Palo Alto
Municipal Code, this ordinance shall become effective upon adoption.
