HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-06-04 Ordinance 4703ORDINANCE NO. 4703 ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2000-01 TO PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION OF $471,971 COMPENSATION AND BENEFIT INCREASES RETROACTIVE TO MAY 1, 2001 FOR CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES. WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 12 of Article III of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, the Council on June 19, 2000 did adopt a budget for fiscal year 2000-01; and WHEREAS, City Council has authorized negotiation of a new contract between the City and the Local 715 Service Employees' International Union (SEIU); and WHEREAS, the City and SEIU have reached agreement on a new three year contract, from May 1, 2001 through April 30, 2004, including a 10 percent salary adjustment in the first year along with several classification realignments; and WHEREAS, additional funding of $471,971 is required in the 2000-01 Adjusted Budget for such increases; and WHE~EAS, the additional appropriation of funds from the General Fund Budget Stabilization Reserve is a one-time cost. There will be future year General Fund ongoing costs as a result of negotiated salary increases; and WHEREAS, City Council authorization is needed to amend the 2000-01 budget as hereinafter set forth; and NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows: SECTION 1. The sum of Four Hundred Seventy One Thousand Nine Hundred Seventy One dollars ($471,971) is hereby appropriated to the salary contingency in the General Fund, and the Budget Stabilization Reserve is correspondingly reduced. SECTION 2. This transaction will reduce the Budget Stabilization Reserve from $23,098,994 to $22,627,023. SECTION 3. As specified in Section 2.28.080(f) of the Palo Alto Municipal Code, a majority vote of the City Council is required to adopt this ordinance. SECTION 4. The Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby finds that this is not a project under the California Environmental Quality Act and, therefore, no environmental impact assessment is necessary. SECTION 5. As provided in Section 2.04.350 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code, this ordinance shall become effective upon adoption.
