HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-09-13 Ordinance 5093ORDINANCE NO.S093 ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR FISCAL YEAR 2011 TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATIONS OF $275,000 WITHIN THE GENERAL FUND FOR ESTIMATED ELECTION COSTS FOR THE FIREFIGHTERS CHARTER AMENDMENT AND THE SWITCH TO EVEN NUMBERED YEARS FOR COUNCIL ELECTIONS The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows: SECTION 1. The Council of the City of Palo Alto finds and determines as follows: A. Pursuant to the provisions of Section 12 of Article III of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, the Council on June .28, 2010 did adopt a budget for Fiscal Year 2011; and B. On August 2, 2010, Council voted unanimously to adopt the Resolution Calling for a Special Election for November 2, 2010 sUbmitting the Electorate for Special Election an Initiative Measure to amend the Charter of the City of Palo Alto to specify minimum staffing ad service levels for Fire Department personnel and of Fire Stations and Fire Stations locations and require a Referendum vote for a proposal to reduce such service levels; and C. Council also voted unanimously to adopt the Resolution Calling a Special Election for November 2, 2010 submitting to the Electorate for Special Election a Measure to amend Article III, Section 3 of the Charter to change City Council elections to . even-numbered years and extend the terms of current Council Members to five; and SECTION 2. The sum of $275,000 (Two Hundred Seventy Five Thousand Dollars) is hereby appropriated to Elections, Inter- Agency non-salary expenses in the City Clerk's department, and the Budget Stabilization Reserve is correspondingly reduced. SECTION 3. The Budget Stabilization Reserve is hereby decreased by the sum of $275,000 (Two Hundred Seventy Five Thousand Dollars). As a result of this change the Budget Stabilization Reserve will be reduced from $23,760,611 to $23,485,611. SECTION 4. As specified in Section 2.28.080(a) of the Palo Alto Municipal Code, a two-thirds vote of the City Council is required to adopt this ordinance SECTION 5.
