ORDINANCE OF TPE COUNCIL OF' 'tHE CIT( OF PALO AL TO
AMENDING TITLE 18 OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE
TO REQUIRE SITE AND DES~GN CONTROL FORGASOL!NE
SERVICE STATIONS
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as·
§_ECTION 1. Subsection (c) 5. ·c,f Section 18. 38. 020 of the
Palo Alto ~{unicipal Code is amendep to read as follows:
"5. Gasoliµ.e service stations (exclusi\re of
auto repairs), provided that all operations exc~pt
the servicing with gasoline, oil, air and water be
. conducted within an enclosed building, and provided
· further<that said use shall be subject to site and
design control as.provided in Chapter 18.82."
SECTION 2. Subsection (b)l. of Section 18.44.020 of
the Palo Alto Municipal Code is amended to read as follows:
11 1. Gasoline service stations, provided-that
said use, shall be subject to site and design control
as provided in Chapt'er 18. 82, notwithstanding any
other provision of this Chapter.0
SECTION 3. Subsection (b)l. of Section 18.50.020 of

the Palo Alto MUnicipal Coqe is amend~d ·to read as follows:

SECTION ·.5. Section 18. 56. 110 · is· her~by add.ed to. the

SECTION 6. Section 18.58.050 of the Palo Alto Municipal_·
Code is amended to read as follows:
11 18.,5~~.05(.l_ Site and design control. , To protect resi
dential° districts from other uses permitted in the 1-M
district when adjacent to a resid~ntial district, all
uses permitted by Sec·tion 18. 58. 040 apove within
forty-riine (49) feet. of any R-1 (single family resi
dence) or R-DUP (Duplex) district, and all gasoline
servicec stations permitted in· the I-M district~. wherever
located, shall be subject to site and design control as
proyicied in Cha.pt er, 18. 82 . "
SECTION 7. Section 18.60.040 of the Palo Alto.Municipal
Code is amended to recid a;; fol lows : -
11 18.60.040· Use S"ite and desi n control.

also be subject to site and design control as provided
in Chapter 18.32.11 ·

SECTION 8. Section 18.62.040 of the Palo Alto Municipal
Code is amended to read as follows:
"18.62.040 Use ermits· Site and desi ·n control.

vided in Chapter 18.90: gasoline service stations, which
shall also be subject to si,te and design control as
provided in Chapter 18.82."
SECTION 9. Section 18.64.040 of the Palo Alto Municipal
Code is amended to read as follows:

SECTION 10. This ordinance shall become effective upon
the expiratio.n of 30 days from the date of its .Passage.
