ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF' THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING SUBSECTION {a) OF SECTION 10.64.180 AND
SECTION 10.32.040 OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE
TO PERMIT PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE ·TRAFFIC ON SAN
ANTONIO ROAD OVERPASS
The Counc-il of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as fol-
lows:
SECTION 1. That subsection (a) of section 10.64.180 of the
Palo Alto Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"10.64.180 Riding bicxcles on sidewalks.
(a} No person shail ride a bicycle upon any
sid0walk in a business district or in any pedestrian
underpass, or upon any pedestrian overpass, or upon
Embarcadero Road overpass· across Bayshore Freeway.0
SECTION 2. That Section 10.32.040 of the Palo Alto Muni-
cipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"10.32.040 Pedestrians prohibited -certain overpass.
No pedestrian shall cross Bayshore Freeway upon
Embarcadero Road Overpass."
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall become effective upon the
expiration of thirty days from its passage, and upon approval
by the Department of Public Works, State of California, pursuant
to Section 21109.of the Vehicle Code of the State of California.

Ordinance No. 2496 which prohibits·the use of the
Embarcadero rioad overpass on' the Bayshore Freeway
by pedeotrians and bicycle riders. This proposal
was submitted with your letter of May 5 and sub
sequently discl'.ssed with Traffic Engineer •red
No'guchi.
This approval constitutes full authority on
the part o:f the City to. prooeed~with the necessary
signing and barrier revisions. ·

passed and adopted by the C.-i.ty Council of said City on
April 21, :969 pro~ides as follows:,
No person shall ride a bicycle upon Embarcadero Road
O~erpas~ across Bayshoie Freeway.
No pedestrian shall cross Bayshore Free~ay upon Embar-
~adero Road Overpass. '
This ordinance has been submitt~d to the Department of
Public Works for approval in accordance with Section 21109
of the Vehicle Code.
Bayshore Freeway is State Highway Route 101 as d~fined
by law.

Ordinance No. 2496J insofar as it relates to State High
way Rout~ 101.is approvecl subjectto the following condition:
The ordinance shall cease to be operative six' months
after receipt by. the City Council of written notice of
withdrawal of approval ·0£ the Department of Publk Works~ ·
This order is made pursuant to current.delegations of
authority from·the Director of Public Works through the
State Highway Engin~er to the under§igned Deputy Di~trict
Engineer.
