HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 2487----------------------------------------·-.ORIGINAL ORDINANCE NO. 2487 ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF TIIE CITY OF PALO ALTO AMENDING SECTION 18,88,100 OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE REGULATING WORKING ON MOTOR VEHICLES- WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto finds i' that the activity of servicing, repairing, assembling, dis~ assembling, wrecking, modifying,. or, otherwise working on-any motor vehicle, or the storage of motor vehicles or parts thereof, when such activity occurs in a residential area, may tend to become and constitute an attractive nuisance to children living in the area; and WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto finds that such activity when conducted iii a residential area tends to depress the value of property in such area; and WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto finds that such activity tends to give a commercial aspect to the pro­ perty on which it is conducted, which commercial activity is not otherwise permitted in an 11 R11 district. NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as· follows: SECTION 1. Section 18.88.100 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "18.88.100 Working on motor vehicles and storage of parts. On any lot in any R district the servicing, repairing, assembling, disassembling, wrecking, modify­ ing or otherwise working on·-any motor vehicle or the placing or storing of disabled motor.vehicles, motor vehicle bodies, unregistered motor vehicles, parts, equipment, machi~ery, tools, or.other automotive materials of any kind ~s prohibited,,subject to the following: . · (a) A person residing on said lot ~ay service, repair, disassemble, assemble, wreck, modify, restore or otherwise work on any motor .. yehicle'owned by him provided such vehicle and work is sct~ened. from the street and adjoining prop_erty by a legally located six foot solid board fence or equivalent. - l - .. • • (b) Emergency repairs or service to a motor vehicle owned by the person residing on said lot may be conducted in an area where such activity is otherwise prohi.bited by this section provided such repairs or service shall not extend over a period of seventy-two hours. (c) Chapter 18.94, relating to nonconforming uses, shall not be applicable to this section." SECTION 2. This ordinance shall become effective upon the expiration of thirty days from its passage.
