ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE TO ADD.A
CHAPTER 18:79 TO BE` ENTITLED "-C" CIVIC CENTER
DISTRICT REGULATIONS
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. The Council of the City of Palo Alto finds and
declares that the establishment of a civic center district, pur-
suant to the provisions of Government Code Section 65850(f), is
necessary to protect the large public investment
the Palo Alto
Civic Center. The purpose, background and objectives of such
district are as more fully described and depicted in the publication
entitled "Proposed Civic Center District, Palo Alto, California",
prepared by the City of Palo Alto Planning Department and dated
December 15, 1967. The Council hereby adopts the contents of this
publication as the basis for this findincx.
SECTION 2. Title 18 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code (Zoning)
:'is hereby amended to add a Chapter 18.79, to be entitled " '-C'
Civic Center District Regulations" and to read as shown -in EXHIBIT
A attached hereto and by reference made a part hereof.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall become effective upon the
expiration of thirty days from the date of its passage.

18.79.010 Regulations Established. The following
regulations shall apply in any district with -which-are combined -
the "=a" district in addition to the regulations hereinb.efore
specified, provided, however, that if any of the regulations
specified in this section differ from any corresponding regu-
lations specifiedin this title for any district with which a
"-C" district is combined, then in such case the provisions of
this chapter shall ,apply.
18.79.020 Uses Permitted. All uses permitted in the
respective district with which the "-C" district is combined
shall be permitted, except parking lots and parking structures.
18.79.030 Uses Re uirin Use Permits. A use permit
shall be required for any use w a.c wou require a use permit
in the respective district with which the "-C" district is com-
bined, except that parking lots and parking structures shall
not be permitted.
18.79.040 Setback Re uirements..On any frontage is
the "-C" district, t e ront yar set ac . shall be six feet, or
that distance provided by Title 20, iii Lhal distance provided
by the regulations for the district with which the "-C" dis-
trict is combined, whichever distance is the greatest.
18.79.050 Maximum and _• Minimum , Building Heights. Any
building constructed on a lot having any frontage facing the
Civic Center shall have.a maximum height: of seventy feet and a
minimum height of thirty-five feet.
18.79.060 Offstreet Parking Areas. No offstreet parking
areas shall be located in the front yard.
18.79.070 Signs. Signs permitted in the "-C" district
shall be the same as in the C-2 district except as follows:
(a) Flashing, moving or otherwise animated signs
shall be prohibited.
(b) The size of wall signs shall be regulated by
the table attached hereto as EXHIBIT'A and
incorporated herein by 're€erence.
(c) Projecting signs shall be prohibited.
18.79.080 Design Approval. Required; In any district
with which is ,combined a .Is -CH district, approval of design
shall be secured for the construction of any buildings, struc-
tures, planting, paving, and other improvements, in accordance
with the .provisions of Chapter 18.82 of this title.
