AMENDING TITLE 18 OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE
BY ADDING CHAPTE·R~ 18. 95 TO BE ENTITL~D 11 SPECIAL
AMORTIZATION DISTRICTS" .,
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as
follows:
SECTION lo Title 18 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code
is hereby amended to add thereto Chapter ·~18. 95 ~ entitled
,I
•.•special Amortization Districts" to read as set forth in
Exhibit 11 A11 attached hereto and made a part .hereof by refer-
ence.

S~CTION 2.. This ordinance shall become effective upon
the expiration .Jf thirty days from the date of its passage.

Removal of Nonconforming Uses within District.
18.95.010 ; Purpose. The purpose of this chapter ·1s to
promote the simultaneous and orde~ly conversion and redevelop-
. ment of areas with numerous· properth?s containing. nonconforming Uses. · · · ·
18.95.020 -Manner of Initiating. The formation of a
special amortizat:lon district' may be initiated either by the
Councils by minute order, requesting the Planning Connnission
to consider the formation of such a district, or' the Planning
Commission may, of its.own initiative, consider such formation~

body, the Planning Commission shall proceed as though an appli
cation for a change of district had been filed in accordance

Upon receipt of the recouunenoittlon of. the Planning Comission,
as provided herein, the City Co•Jncil shall .consider the smne,
and may establish or refuse to establish the special·amortiza
tion district as recommended and its d~cision thereon shall be
final and conclusiveo If the City Council desires, it may
holq a public hearirlgon the matter in the sam~ manner as
provided in Section 18,.95·~040 he,reof where. applicable. If the·
Council desires to establish the tecormnended area as a special
amortization district, lt shall enact an 'or6ihance to this .
effect.
18~950070 Removal of .~onconformin
When a special aLmrt1zat1on 1str1ct is es ta s ea, t e per od
for the termination of nonconforming uses therein, and for the
conversion or remo~al of buildings containirig such uses, shall
be that for the building within the-district which, on the date
of adoption of the ordinance forming the district, has the
longest period of time for such termination, conversion and
removal under the provisiqns o,f Section \8,. 94.120. Any ordin
ance enacted hereunder shall state the ~pplicable period of time
