Section 18.60.050 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: ''18. 60. 050 Us es reguiring fencing and· lands£_,aping. (a) To protect R-1 and R•DUP districts from adjacent L-M distript uses, there shall be provid~d upon the property of any use in the L-M district which abuts any R-1 and R-DUP district a solid fence·o~ wall eight feet in height and a planted screen of approved, trees and shrubs in a planting space not less than ten feet in width at the property lirie abutting the R-1 ~r R-DUP district. - (b) All properties which are on the opposite side of any street, alley, -creek, .-:anal or other s irt1ilar -open space from any R .... l or R-DUP district shall provide a planted screen of trees and shruhs in _a planted space not less 'than ten feet in width between the street, . alley, creek, canal or other pennanent open ~pace and any building, parking space, driveway er 9ther use.of the property, except that openings in such screens may be provided for reasonable access to streets and alleys. SECTION.4. (b) All properties which are on the opposite side of any street, alley, creek, canal or similar open space from any R-1 or R-DUP district shall provide a planted screen of trees and shrubs in a planting space not less than ten feet in width between the street, alley, creek, canal or other permanent open space and any building, park~ng space, driveway or other use cf the property, except that openings tn such screens may be provided for reasonable access to streets and alleys. Section 18.38.110 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: -'-'18 .38. 110 Buil ping height. limit. But ld.ing. height limit · in the C-1 atstrict-shall be one story, but n6t to exceed ·twenty five feet, except that within fo~ty~f.ou;r ·and one• half feet' of any R• l 'or R•DUP property line the .height shall not exceed·twelve feet measured_ at a dist'ance of ten feet from .the R-1· or -R~llilP pro.Pert) line plus~ onP­ additional foot 'of height for eacb one and one--haif ad<lil.:ional_feet of distan~e from the property line. ' -_SECTIOH 7. Chapter 18. 40-of the· Palo Alto Municipal. Code is hereby am'E!nded to add Section 18 .40. 025 to read as follows: "18.40.025 Usen within five hundred feet of R-1 and R-DuP districts. Uses of land and buildings within five hundred feet qf any R-1 or R-DUP district shall be restricted to those that are not or will not be offensive by reason of the emission of dust, gas , stnoke, noise, fumes , ·odors , vibrations, night illumination or otherwise; and pro­ vided further that prior to the issuance of a building permit the ·building official may require evidence ·that ad~quate controls, measures or devices have been pro- .vided to insure aqd protect the public intere.st, health, cu-mfort 11 convenience, safety artd general welfare from such riuisances. 11 · · SECTION 8. Chapter 18.40 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code is hereby amended to add Section 18.40.08.5 to read a& follows: 11 18:40.085 Additional.height linilts within certain distances of R-1 or lf-bUP tr~erties. In addition to tfie height · Iimltations spec f"ea in Section 18.40.080, the following regulations shall apply within the distances from R-1 and R-DUP properties hereinafter specifi~d: ·-(a) .. Within forty-four and one-half feet of any R-1 or R-DUP prope1:ty-l.t11e: thQ height sha 11 not ex~eed twe~ve feet measured at a distance of ten feet from the-R•l or R-DUP property line; plus one additional foot, of height for each one and one-half additional feet of distance from the property line. (b) Between forty-four and one~half feet and one hun­ dred twenty-one feet of any R-1 or R-DUP property line the height.of any structure shall not·exceed thirty­ five feet. (c) Over one hundred twenty-one feet from any R-1 or R-DUP property line the height shall not exceed thir~y-. five feet, plus one additional foot o~ heigh&: for each five additional feet of distance from the, property line.," SECTION 10 •. Chapter 18.50 6f the·Palo Alto Municipal Code is· hereby amended by adding Secti6n-18.50.025 to read as follows: "18:50.025 .Use-s within five hundred feet of a-1 and a.:nm> districts. SECTION 11. Section 18.50.040 of the Palo Alto M~nicipal. Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "18.50.040 Uses requiring fencing and landscaping.
