ORDINANCE PROVIDING POR THE SUBMISSION TO '1'l:IE VOTERS
OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO OF A C:ERTAIN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING FLUORIDATION OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL WATER SUPPLY
WHEREAS" on Tuesday, the 8~h day of ,MarchI 19551 Winifred
Kidd, City Clerk of the City ot: Palo Alto, received an initiative
petition conta1ning an ord1nance providing for the submission to
the' votel's 01: the City of Palo lito of a (:e:r:-tain ordinance pro
hibiting fluorldat,1ol'l of the Palo Alto Munic1pal Water Supply"
which petition requested that said. ordinance either be passed by
the Cl.ty Council wlthout alterat1on" or that the same be submitted
to the elector'S of theC.;i.ty of Palo Alto :5lt the next general
municipal election; and,
WHEREAS" the City Clerk exaw.ined. sa1ct pet1tlon and found
sa::ne to be signed by qualified and :regi5t~~red electors equal in
'nu;.noer to more than 10,; of the entire vote' cast at the last pre-
ceding general m~nicipal election; and,
WHEREAS, on the 24th day of March" 1955, said win.ifred Kldd.,
City Clerk .. attached her certlflc:Q;te stating that said petition
·contained. a sufficient number ot qualified and regist~red electors,
as provided in Article VI, Section 2, Of the Charter of the City
of Palo Alto; and ..
w1lEREAS, said section of th~ Cit;, Charter-above mentioned
provides that ~pon receipt of such petition the City Council shall
either pass the ordinance subru1tted without alte~atio~, or submit
the same to the electors at the nex.t general mun1cipal election;

STATE OF CALIFORNIA, PROHIBrrI:~G FLUORIDATION
OF PALO ALTO ~1JNICIPAL WATER SUPPLY AND REPEAL
ING IJI ORDINA1'lCE ADOPTED BY A VOTE OF THE PEOPLE
OF PALO ALTO NOVEMBER 2 .. 1954
-The people o!' the City of Palo Alto do oroa1n as
follows:
·Section 1. Fluoridation of the Palo Alto ,MunlClpal
W<.lter Supply is hereby proh1b1ted.
"Sectl2!l.£. p,n ordinance entitled "An O!"d1nance of
.the C1ty or Palo Alto" State of Ca11fornia, Autboriz1ng
the Fluoridation of the Palo Alto Mutl!.c1pal water Supply, II
adopted by a vote of the people at a spec1al electlo::
held on Nove:uber 2 .. 1954, is hereby repealed.
"Section 3. This ordinance shall become effective
upon receivlng a majority of ·the vot(~S of the electors
ot the ,C1ty of Palo Alto" Californ1a, 'loting clt an. elec
tion held in sa1d C1ty."
Only one form. of ballot shall be use,l at said election"
wh1ch shall be the fom provided by the Cl·ty Clerk; !Jrov:tded
that 1n addition to any other matters reqi.lired by law to be
printed thereon, there shall appear the 1:.'l1t1atlve ordinance
zet forth herein. Each voter to vote for the (;rdl:n~nce hereby
submitt.ed shall stamp a cr~ss eX) the blank space opposite the
w,ords "por the Ordinance" on the ballot, and to vote again~\t sald
