RELATTVE TO TB:E CONTROL OF DO(~S
" w1IEREAS, on Monday, the 5th dey ot April; 1943, 'W'in1f:red
K.tdd, City Clerk of the City of Palo Al1:;o, rece:tved an initiative
petition containing an ordinance relati,re to thi~ control .of dogs
which petition requested that said ordinance eit.her be passed by
the City Council without alteration, or that the same be sub
mitted to the electors of the City or Palo Alto at the next gen
eral :mu.n:!.cipal election. And 1

OF DOGS."
"The •People Ol~ the City of Palo Alt1:> DO ORDAIN as
fcllo'«.7s, to wit:
Section 1. All dogs 1n the Ci.ty of Palo .Alto shall at
all times be kept upon pr1•vate property s~nd shall not be
permitted to run e.t large upon a.n.y of thE~ pu.blic: streets
of the city; provided, however ;o that a per:son may take a
dog upon the public s1~reets of the city if :3aid dog is on
a. lea.sh and under the control or such person.
·.Section 2. Any person having control of .a dog on a
leash on the public streets shall not pe:r•mit such dog to
go upon the pl:'ivate property of another .• or to 1.tse any or
the a.,rea of the publi<~ street between the cu.rb line and the
prope·rty line, for any unclean purpose.
Section 3. Th.e owner or person h.s '\t1ng the' custody
or control of any dog found running at larg~~ upon any
of the streets "J:f the City of Palo .Alto!' or any person
viola.ting Section 2 of this ordinance, shall be deemed
gu.il t;y of a misdemeanor, which shall be pun.:Lshattle as
