HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998-05-11 Ordinance 4502ORDINANCE NO. 4502 ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1997-98 TO PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION OF $17,983 TO PALO ALTO COMMUNITY CHILD CARE IN SUPPORT OF A PRE- KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 12 of Article III of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, the Council on June 23, 1997 did adopt a budget for fiscal year 1997-98; and WHEREAS, Palo Alto Community Child Care (PACCC) and the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) have developed a pilot program targeted at children identified by PAUSD as beingat-risk of not successfully transitioning into kindergarten; and WHEREAS, PACCC and PAUSD are collaborating to target such pre- kindergarten aged children with a seven week summer school program to begin in Summer 1998; and WHEREAS, PACCC is requesting $17,983 to fund the afternoon portion of this program, with the remainder of the funds coming from PAUSD and PACCC reserves; and WHEREAS, it is the intention of PACCC to seek grant funding to support this program in future years; and WHEREAS, City Council authorization is needed to amend the 1997-98 budget as hereinafter set forth. NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows: SECTION 1. The sum of Seventeen Thousand Nine Hundred Eighty - Three Dollars ($17,983) is hereby appropriated to non -salary expenses in the Human Services Functional Area in the Community Services Department, and the Budget Stabilization Reserve is correspondingly reduced. SECTION 2. This transaction will reduce the Budget Stabilization Reserve from $16,042,041 to $16,024,058. SECTION 3. As specified in Section 2.28.080(a) of the Palo Alto Municipal Code, a two-thirds vote of the City Council is required to adopt this ordinance. SECTION 4. The Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby finds that this is not a project under the California Environmental Quality Act and, therefore, no environmental impact assessment is necessary. SECTION 5. As provided in Section 2.04.350 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code, this ordinance shall become effective upon adoption.
