HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998-05-11 Ordinance 4500ORDINANCE NO. 4500 ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1997-98 TO ACCEPT A $34,896 GRANT FROM THE PUBLIC FUND OF THE STATE LIBRARY AND TO PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION FOR THE COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT OF $34,896 WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 12 of Article III of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, the Council on June 23, 1997 did adopt a budget for fiscal year 1997-98; and WHEREAS, the State's Public Library Fund distributes funding through the State Library to be used by local jurisdictions for any library -related purpose except building construction; and WHEREAS, the Community Services Department applied for and received a grant of $34,896 from the State Library's 1997-98 Public Library Fund to be used for library collections, consultant services to update the Library's automation plan, operational costs of implementing a joint catalog of public libraries in Santa Clara County, and purchase of easy reading materials for community members learning to read in English; and WHEREAS, City Council authorization is needed to accept and expend the grant receipts; and WHEREAS, City Council authorization is needed to amend the 1997-98 budget as hereinafter set forth. NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows: SECTION 1. Grant revenue in the Library Functional Area of the Community Services Department is increased by the sum of Thirty Four Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety -Six dollars ($34,896) for receipt of the. Public Library Funds. SECTION 2. The sum of $34,896 is hereby appropriated to non - salary expenses in the Library Functional Area of the Community Services Department. SECTION 3. This transaction will have no impact on reserves. SECTION 4. As specified in Section 2.28.080(a) of the Palo Alto Municipal Code, a two-thirds vote of the City Council is required to adopt this ordinance. SECTION 5. The Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby finds that this is not a project under the California Environmental Quality Act and, therefore, no environmental impact assessment is necessary. SECTION 6. As provided in Section 2.04.350 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code, this ordinance shall become effective upon adoption.
