ADDING SECTION 2.04.395 TO THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL
CODE ESTABLISHING COUNCIL MEMBER SALARIES AT $400
PER MONTH TO BE EFFECTIVE UPON THE COMMENCEMENT OF
THE NEXT SUCCEEDING TERM OF OFFICE FOR EACH COUNCIL-
ME:MBER POSI'rION
WHEREAS, Section 36516.2 of. the California Government
Code, when read in conjunction with Article III, Section 17
of the Palo Alto Charter, authorizes the City Council to in
crease the salary of its members at a rate five percent (5%)
for each yea~ which has elapsed since the last salary in

WHEHEAS 1 thi.s Co.lncil int~·nds to eliminate the bi-·weekly
$6 expense allowance authorized for Councilmembers concurrent
with the effectiv0 rl2it.t?: of each salary incnc>ase7
NOW, 'I'HERSFOR't~ .. the Council of tt1fc: City of Palo Alto
does ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. The salary of a Councilmember shall be set
at. Four H:rndi."ed Do.Uars ($400) per month upon commencement of
the next succeeding term of off ice for each Councilmember
position,
SECTION 2. The Council finds that this is not a project
under the California Environmental Quality Act and, there
fore, no environmental impact assessment is necessary.
SECTION 3. Thia ordinance shall become effective upon
the c0rru;encement of the thirty-first day after the day of its
passage.
