ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
ADDING SCC'l'ICN 5.20 .. 260 TO 'I~llE Pl\LO AJ...TO MUNICIPAL
CODE REGARDING THE COLLECTION OF RECYCLABLE
MATERIALS IN THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does 0RDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 5.20.260 is hereby added to the Palo Alto
Municipal Code to rea.d as follows~
"5. 20. 260 ~morship of n~?yclable

poses of this section, 'r.ecyclable materials'
shall mc:-Ln ma.ga.z ines, newspapers, ancl. clean
off ice paper that is no~ contaminated by
garbage or other waste material, and clean
cans and bottles. Recyclable materials placed
at the curb of residential properties or placed
for. collect ion on reside.ntj.al properties shall
become the property of the City or the City's
authorized recyclable materials collector at
the time of placement at the curb or placement
for collection. The City, its duly authorized
agent, or a person expressly authorized by the
own21: or occupc:nt of the residential property,
shall have the exclusive right to collect
such recyclable materials. It shall be unlawful
and an infraction tor any person, except as other
wise provided herein and in sections 5.20.070 and
5.20.080 of this Code, to collect the recyclable
materials from residential sites and posted
City recycling depots within the City, includ-
ing that site located at 3864 Middlefield Road,
Palo Alto."
SECTION 2. The Council finds that this is not a project under
the Cai:lforuia Environmental Quality Act and, therefore, no envircm-:
mental impact assessment is necessary.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall become effective upon the
corrrnence~ent of the thirty-first day after the day of its passage.
