AMENDING CHAPTER 4.10 OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE
BY ADDING A NEW SECTION THE~&TO, S~CTlOH 4.10.051,
CREATING A LIMITED EXCEPTION TO REGULATIONS REGARDING
HOURS OF SOLICITATION APPLICABLE TO SOLICITORS AND
PEDDLERS
The Council of the City of Palo Alto aoes ORP~IN as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 4.10 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code is
hereby amended by adding thereto a new section numbered Section
4.10~051, which shall read as follows:
4.10.051 Lt.ited Exception to Regulations
Regarding Hours of Solicitation. Notwithstanding
the provisions of Section 4.10.050{d), until August
13, 1988, provided no ~No solicitors or peddlers•
sign has been posted, a licensed solicitor or peddler
may call upon the occupant of a residence bet~een the
hours of 6:00. p.m. and 8:00 p~m. provided that; (a)
no more than four (4) weeks, and no less than one ( 1)
day, prior to the time of such solicitation said
solicitor or peddler shall have provided such
occupant with written notice by United States mail of
his or her intention to so solicit, {b) at least three
(3) days prior to such solicitation said solicitor or
peddler shall have provided the Chief of the Police
with written notice of the area in which such
solicitation shall occur, as defined by aaps,
addresses, .or street boundaries, and of the intended
pet·iod of such solicitation, which period shall in no
event exceed six (6) weeks, and (c) no business,
organization, person or entity represented by such
solicitor or pedqler, nor any peddler or solicitor on
their. behalf shall subseq~ently solicit or peddle
between the hours of 6.:00 P·•· and 8:00 P·•· at the
residence of any such occupant within three (3) aonths
after a solicitation under this section has occurred.
SECTION 2. None of the provisions of this Ordinance will
have a significant environmental effect.
SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall beCOIIe effecttve upon the
commencementof the thirty-first day after the day of its
passage and this Ordinance and Section 4.10.051 of the Palo Alto
Municipal Code enacted hereby shall be deemed repealed on Auqust
13, 1986, unless the City Council adopts an ordinance to extend,
modify or amend the provisions of this ordinance.
